After moving to an underweight position in equities for the first time since 2009, we are shifting our focus on what is next for the markets in 2019 and our portfolios. While our indicators deteriorated during the second half of 2018, our portfolios are in a defensive position and we believe they are well positioned to take advantage of any buying opportunities that arise. Here are our key takeaways from Stratos Private Wealth’s most recent Market Outlook Webinar:
- Pros: The U.S. does not appear to be in recession risk, equity valuations have improved significantly, sentiment levels have improved, and credit conditions remain favorable.
- Cons: Global economic slowdown is underway, central banks are not being as accommodative as they have been in the past, the potential for continued trade conflict, and rising interest rates could all be headwinds for equities.
Now is a good time to review risk tolerance, large holdings of employer stock, and account allocations for investments outside of Stratos Private Wealth. We will continue to monitor our objective indicators for signs that it is time for a shift in investment strategy.
